چکیده

Abstract Background Knowledge of soil aggregate formation and stability is essential, as this important for maintaining functions. Aims This study aimed to investigate the influence organic matter (OM), content pedogenic iron (Fe) (oxyhydr)oxides, size on aggregates in arable soil. Methods To end, Ap Bt horizons a Luvisol were sampled after 14 years bare fallow, results compared with control field that had been permanently cropped. Results In horizon, fallow decreased median diameter 53–250 µm fraction by 26%. Simultaneously, mass 20–53 increased 65%, indicating reduced stability—particularly larger microaggregates—due lack input fresh OM. The range carbon ( C) modern C (F under was between 0.50 0.90, thus lower than cropped site 0.75 1.01), which particularly pronounced smallest fraction, presence older C. higher turnover <20 probably also due having highest poorly crystalline Fe (oxy)hydroxides, other fractions, act cementing agent. Colloid transport from horizon observed treatment. Conclusions OM microaggregates led release mobile colloids, can initiate elemental fluxes as‐yet unknown environmental consequences.
